Thermo King Introduces Its Most Advanced Genset Platform Which Exceeds Compliance Requirements

Genset solution provides best-in-class performance and lowest overall cost of ownership

Brussels, Belgium, November 22, 2012 -Thermo King, a manufacturer of temperature control systems for a variety of mobile applications and a brand of Ingersoll Rand, is launching its most advanced generator set (genset) platform ever. This customer-driven solution provides reliable performance, fuel-efficiency, low cost of ownership, and best-in-class performance while exceeding the toughest environmental regulations in place today, delivering �Compliancy Plus.�


Thermo King is introducing the SG-4000 genset series at the Thermo King booth, C6, at the Intermodal Europe 2012 conference, being held in Amsterdam from 27-29 November.

Thermo King engineered the SG-4000 platform with an innovative architecture that delivers best-in-class performance and lowest overall cost of ownership for genset owners and lessors. This solution will be available first quarter 2013 in both clip-on and under-mount configurations.


The new Thermo King genset platform exceeds the most stringent requirements of the Environmental Protection Agency�s (EPA) Tier IV final regulations, as well as the U.S. California Air Resources Board (CARB) requirements. This includes a reduction of 90 percent in particulate matter and a 37 percent reduction in nitrogen oxide from the interim standards that have been in effect since 2008.


The SG-4000 features an advanced design and highly efficient components, eliminating the need for a diesel particulate filter (DPF). The engine utilizes a high-pressure common rail to elevate fuel pressure to approximately 20,000 psi (over 1,360 standard atmosphere or at) to minimize particulate matter residues and emissions within the cylinder itself. As a result, the SG-4000 genset engine runs cleaner and avoids the costs and complexities of a high-maintenance after-treatment system.


SG-4000 gensets feature a highly innovative diesel engine and state-of-the-art components like a reliable and efficient generator. It also offers an advanced user-friendly SG+ microprocessor controller. This controller revolutionized the industry when first introduced in the Thermo King SG-3000 genset line in 2007 and is currently still the most advanced in the industry.

The existing Thermo King SG-3000 genset line will continue to be available for customers who wish to make a progressive transition into the new SG-4000 gensets.


SG-3000 gensets manufactured in 2013 will meet the EPA�s requirements under the Transition Program for Equipment Manufacturers (TPEM). TPEM engines are exempt from EP
