Exclusive Thermo King Electronic Throttling Valve Saves Fuel, Maintains Temperature and Reduces Maintenance

Industry-leading solution saves up to 30 percent in fuel

Louisville, Ky., March 30, 2011 - At a time when owners and operators are finding it critical to economize, the new Thermo King electronic throttling valve (ETV) for straight trucks allows them to optimize energy and operational efficiency while improving product quality on delivery.

Rigorous testing completed in late 2010 demonstrated that the ETV saves up to 30 percent in fuel and reaches set point up to 50 percent faster while the engine runs up to 20 percent less.

Unique to the truck industry, the ETV from Thermo King, a manufacturer of temperature control systems for a variety of mobile applications and a brand of Ingersoll Rand, enhances Thermo King T-Series single-temp truck units with scroll compressors. These units include the T-600, T-800 and T-1000.

"Our customers are saying they need to do even more with their limited resources, and this unique solution helps them do just that," said Doug Lenz, director of product management for Thermo King. "The ETV enables straight truck owners and operators to spend less money delivering higher quality foods, pharmaceuticals and other fresh and frozen products to their customers."

The ETV provides benefits that include:

  • Allowing cargo to remain fresh longer as the box temperature recovers to set point faster after each door opening
  • Enabling owners and operators to save time and fuel with quick pull down, which cools the truck faster to save time on the front end of trips and maintains temperature efficiently
  • Stretching calendar time between service intervals by increasing engine off time
  • Lowering fuel and maintenance costs, quickly paying for itself and resulting in a low lifecycle cost

About the T-Series
Thermo King T-Series units are a complete range of self-powered temperature control units for 12' - 28' straight trucks hauling fresh or frozen loads. The units are available in single- and multiple-temperature versions with either scroll or reciprocating compressors. The T-Series delivers a lower lifecycle cost, precise temperature control, advanced fuel-saving technology and greater ease-of-use and serviceability.

Within the industry, the Thermo King T-Series units deliver unmatched performance and reliability. When compared with traditional compressors, the advanced scroll compressors from Thermo King offer a 10 percent reduction in fuel consumption with cleaner, quieter operation, less vibration and less maintenance.

The T-Series offers SmartPower™ electric standby and the EMI-2000 extended maintenance interval to help customers increase their efficiency while lessening their environmental impact. The standard TSR-2 control system features fuel-saving technology options such as CYCLE-SENTRY™ mode, FuelSaver II and inputs for electronic door switches.
