The California Air Resources Board (CARB) has adopted
Airborne Toxic Control Measures (ATCM) for Transport Refrigeration Units
(TRU) to reduce the particulate matter (PM) produced from the diesel engines.
All in-use TRU units, whether domicile or operated, within the state of
California must comply with this regulation by December 31, 2008 and beyond
depending on unit and engine model year. Thermo King has championed
technology development projects with CARB and other manufacturers to design
and verify multiple retrofit options for owners and operators of TRU units.
Verified Diesel Emissions Control Strategies (VDECS) are currently pending
approval from CARB and will be commercially available for installation in
2006.
