Twenty-four Hour Service in China

Donghwa Container Transportation Service Co., Ltd. has been servicing Thermo King needs in Shanghai for the past seven years. Ni Yi Min, deputy executive general manager, recently spoke to 20/40 about their operations.

Please give us a brief description of the size and scope of Donghwa.

"Donghwa employs 150 people including two senior engineers, 14 engineers and 4 IICL certified inspectors. Our facility occupies 170,000 square meters and is located in Shanghai.

"We service the shipping lines of OOCL, Maersk Evergreen, P & O and Hapag-Llyod to name a few. We also work with container leasing companies such as Carlisle and Cronos."

What sets Donghwas apart from other dealerships?

"Truly unique to our dealership is our 24-hour emergent repair for reefer containers in the Shanghai area. If your reefer is down, simply call day or night and our repair unit will be on their way. We can provide this emergent repair service even if the reefer container is on board a foreign vessel. Our technicians have specified passes released by the Chinese government security bureau that permits Donghwa technicians to board the ship.

"We stock 100,000 USD spare parts. As soon as a new Thermo King hits the market, we have the parts list and operation manual. We also purchase all the relevant spare parts to service these new units.

"Donghwa also does all the new reefer unit commissioning at CIMC (SCRC), Shanghai Reeferco and Yangzhou TLC."

To date, what have been some of Donghwa's major accomplishments?

"Since 1996, we have completed 5,560 new Thermo King unit commissionings. All the new unit data including container numbers, unit serial numbers and dates of service are stored in our data system. This allows us to better service the units under Thermo King's warranty policy. We are proud of our ability to do all the modifications of Thermo King units and warranty work in the Shanghai area."
